From Cow Pies to POOpeas

Have you ever driven down the road enjoying a leisurely drive and all of a sudden had the pleasure of experiencing the aroma of, as I refer to it, barnyard fondue?  And then looked around to see a rather productive cattle operation with manure piled up as high as the equipment can stack it. That distinct smell fills your nostrils with an unforgettable memory. Growing up, I gained hundreds of those types of memories; one of which involves my grandpa. As a child I had the pleasure of getting to spend quality time with my grandpa on the family ranch learning the old fashioned values of being a good steward of the land, water preservation for the crops and good old fashioned hard work. On Sundays his favorite pastime was to go to the local coffee shop with all of the other farmers and ranchers in the area. This place was amazing! I learned that you can solve all of the world’s problems and fix the political system over a cup of coffee. HA, those were the days! After listening to all of the bull / Wild West tales we would head home and drive past the local cattle feed lot. Every time without a fail he would say: “Johnny, can you smell the money?”  It took 45 years of wondering what he meant by that and, a lot of hard work later, I finally figured it out.

The Challenge

Agricultural feeding operations are dealing with mounting piles of manure from 100 million cows that produce approx 10 billion pounds of raw product daily. Using eco-friendly composting methods we, all of us, can reuse one of the most treasured byproducts of the Ag industries: Organic fertilizer/compost. The all-natural product lends itself to greater soil health, healthier plants, healthier food products, and higher water-holding capacity for the soil. It can also help reduce the need for man-made synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. We know that the world has a lot of problems and we aren’t going to solve them all. But today, right now, we have a better choice at least when it comes to foods we eat and the ground our children play on.

The Environment

So, did someone say safe organic fertilizer?  Did someone say sustainability?  Well, we did!  We are helping stop some of the toxins that run off into our rivers and waterways.  We don’t like risking our family or pets’ health and, honestly, who wants to eat all of those chemicals?  Not us!  Our mission is to raise awareness for healthier living throughout the country by providing a safe alternative for all of us including our Mother Earth and even those cows that feed off it.  Not only do we strive to help build more sustainable gardens, farms but a healthier food chain overall so that we can all live healthier lives on this beautiful planet of ours.
